Virginia Pre-Hospital Information Bridge (VPHIB)

Description

Data are a part of the National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS) that provides data on patient care reporting by EMS agencies and staff.

How the Community can use the Data

The VPHIB data helps community members, policymakers, and healthcare organizations understand the demand for emergency medical services and the quality of pre-hospital care across Virginia. By analyzing trends in EMS response times, types of emergencies, and patient outcomes, the community can support efforts to improve emergency services, enhance public safety, guide resource allocation, and inform planning for emergency preparedness and response initiatives.

Data Limitations

The data is collected from EMS providers and may vary in completeness or accuracy due to differences in reporting practices and documentation. Not all incidents or patient outcomes are fully captured, especially if patients decline transport or care. Additionally, data focuses on EMS responses and does not include follow-up information from hospitals or other healthcare providers. There may also be delays in data submission and validation, which can affect timeliness.
