Virginia Respiratory Disease Data Dashboard

Description

The Virginia Respiratory Disease Data Dashboard is an interactive platform developed by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to monitor and analyze respiratory illnesses across the Commonwealth. Launched in September 2024, it consolidates data from previous influenza and COVID-19 dashboards, providing a comprehensive view of respiratory disease trends, including COVID-19, influenza (flu), and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

How the Community can use the Data

The Virginia Respiratory Disease Data Dashboard helps individuals, families, healthcare providers, and community organizations stay informed about respiratory illness trends in their area. By accessing data on cases, hospitalizations, and outbreaks, the community can make informed decisions about prevention, seek timely care, and support public health efforts to reduce the spread of illnesses like COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. The dashboard also helps guide community preparedness and response planning.

Data Limitations

The data may not capture all cases, as not everyone with respiratory illness seeks testing or medical care. Reporting delays and variations in testing availability can affect how current and complete the data is. Additionally, case counts may fluctuate due to changes in reporting practices or public health investigations. The dashboard presents population-level trends and may not reflect individual risk or outcomes.
