Description

The VASIS Health Risk Factors and Behaviors Dashboard, developed by the OMNI Institute, presents data on key behaviors and conditions that influence health outcomes across Virginia. This interactive tool tracks indicators such as substance use, mental health status, physical activity, nutrition, tobacco and alcohol use, and other lifestyle-related risk factors. Users can explore data by region, age group, race and ethnicity, and other demographic variables to uncover trends and disparities.

How the Community can use the Data

Communities can use the VASIS Health Risk Factors and Behaviors Dashboard to better understand local health challenges and behavioral trends. Public health agencies, schools, coalitions, and nonprofits can identify priority areas for education, prevention, and outreach—such as substance use reduction, mental wellness promotion, and chronic disease prevention. The dashboard’s localized and demographic-specific data supports planning, evaluation, and grant writing, enabling data-driven programming tailored to community needs.

Data Limitations

Data may rely on self-reported surveys, which can be affected by bias or underreporting. Some indicators may not be updated annually or may be unavailable at finer geographic levels due to privacy or sampling constraints. In addition, not all risk behaviors are captured, and some populations may be underrepresented.
