The Virginia Young Adult Survey 

  • The Virginia Young Adult Survey a comprehensive, biennial survey of 18–25-year-olds in Virginia on a variety of subjects including substance use, mental health, and gambling. Data are available at the CSB and region levels and can be explored by a wide range of demographic characteristics.

About Us

Designed by OMNI Institute in partnership with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, the Virginia Social Indicator Summary (VASIS) is a data hub exploring the behavioral health and wellness of Virginians. First launched in 2015, VASIS compiles years of behavioral health data from agencies and organizations across the state with a goal to centralize key indicators of behavioral health and wellness and provide a resource for needs assessment, epidemiological monitoring, and planning efforts.

  • Submitted by local law enforcement agencies to the Virginia Department of State Police’s Incident-Based Crime Reporting Repository data, Uniform Crime Reports explore drug and narcotic related arrest rates. Data are available at the locality, CSB, and regional level and allow for exploration by demographic characteristics, reason for arrest, and type of substance involved.

Health Risk Factors and Behaviors

  • The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is a national survey exploring health-related risk behaviors, chronic health concerns, and engagement in prevention services. BRFSS data is available at region and state levels and allows exploration of trends by demographic group.

  • The Virginia Youth Survey (VYS), a part of the national Youth Risk Behavior Survey, explores risk behaviors and protective factors among middle and high school students contributing to health and social outcomes. Data can be viewed at the state and region level (note: regional data is only available for select years at the middle school) and allows exploration of trends by demographic group.
